BIOINFORMATICS
An interdisciplinary field of study called bioinformatics brings together computer science, statistics, and biology to analyse and interpret biological data, particularly big data produced by high-throughput research like genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics.
With the use of bioinformatics, researchers are able to analyse and interpret biological data, gain important new knowledge, and advance subjects like genetics, molecular biology, and biotechnology.
The following are some of the major uses for bioinformatics:
- genome assembly and sequencing
- Gene expression research
- Analysis and prediction of protein structure
- comparing genomes
- Evolutionary biology and phylogenetics
- drug development and discovery
Students are introduced to the fundamentals of bioinformatics, databases, and tools for interpreting biological data in the Biotechnology program's Bioinformatics course. It also discusses numerous bioinformatics applications, including drug discovery, gene expression analysis, and genome sequencing. The objective of the course is to give students a fundamental knowledge of bioinformatics and its application to biotechnology research and development.
The Biotechnology programme at IILM University Greater Noida provides a number of different courses in addition to the bioinformatics course, including courses in cell biology, genetics, microbiology, molecular biology, and immunology. The curriculum aims to give students a thorough grasp of biotechnology and its uses in a range of industries, including healthcare, agriculture, and environmental sciences.
Future scope in Bioinformatics:
The field of bioinformatics offers suitable employment opportunities in a range of healthcare organisations, pharmaceutical firms, data science firms, research and development labs, and businesses involved in biotechnology, drug development, bio-analytics, proteomics, clinical research, and pharmacogenomics.
Companies in India hiring Bioinformaticians:
Bioinformaticians are being hired by numerous well-known bioinformatics-related businesses. These companies are QIAGEN, GVK Biosciences, Dassault Systems, Eurofins Scientific, PerkinElmer, Strand Life Sciences, Roche, Innoplexus, Wipro, GVK Biosciences, Tata Consultancy Services, Silicon Genetics, Tessella, Reliance, IBM Life Sciences, Ranbaxy, Torrent Pharmaceuticals, Pubgene, and Bison.
